H.O.R.S.E
H.O.R.S.E is a basic basketball game designed to improve shooting skills. Start the game by choosing one player to shoot first. He can shoot from anywhere on the court. If he makes the basket, the next player in line must make a shot from the same spot. If the next player misses the shot, she receives the letter "h". If this player ends up making her shot as well, then the next player must make his shot or he will receive a letter. If the first player to shoot misses, the next player in line can shoot from anywhere on the court. Repeat this pattern until there is one player left without all of the letters.
Scavenger Hunt
While scavenger hunts can be performed in a variety of different ways, a basic scavenger hunt involves placing "treasure" in hidden places. Start by hiding a bunch of prizes around your house and in the backyard. Make sure the kids who are playing the game are not looking as you hide the treasure. After you have finished hiding everything, tell the children to search the entire house for as many pieces of treasure as they can find. The child with the most prizes wins.
Backyard Bowling
Backyard bowling is similar to regular bowling, except that the pins are composed of household items. Start by finding nine household items to use as pins. Stack them in a triangular formation, starting with one at the top and increasing in rows until the last row is contains four pins. Use a rubber ball and roll it toward the pins. The player who knocks down the most pins is the winner.
Water Balloon Towel Catch
This simple game is best played on a hot day. Fill a number of water balloons and divide a group of kids into two teams. Give each team a large towel and place a water balloon in one of the towels. Have the children work together to throw the water balloon back and forth to each other without breaking it. The team that fails to catch the balloon or allows it to break loses the game.
