Castle Fighting Games

Whenever a medieval castle shows up in a game, whether it's a board game or computer-based, you can bet there's going to be some fighting going on too. Castle games are usually full of warring knights and soldiers, catapults and siege engines, and the battle aspect of these games is typically what appeals to many players. Castle fighting games can vary from strategy titles to action adventures.
  1. Castlevania

    • The "Castlevania" series of games is an institution spanning several gaming consoles and many years. Developed by the Konami company, the series revolves around the attempts of the Belmont family and friends to destroy the vampire Dracula, and the games typically involve plenty of fighting within evil-infested castles. "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" for the Sony PlayStation is a side-scrolling platform game in which the player controls Dracula's son, who is out to investigate a disappearance and kill monsters in Dracula's castle. "Castlevania: Lords of Shadow," meanwhile, is a PlayStation 3 title featuring a mix of puzzles and action and finds the player's character equipped with a wide variety of attack modes.

    Castle Simulations

    • Some games involve players in building castles, which they then must defend or use as a launch pad for attacking other fortresses. "Lords Of the Realm III" is a PC game in which players command large armies featuring knights and bowmen, for example, and must also cultivate their land. Players build towns and garrison castles and then must invade the castles of opponents. PC title "Stronghold 2" places the player in command of one castle and the player must decide how to run his fortress. He has decisions to make involving the castle's layout, handling the townsfolk and how to defend the castle in the event of a siege.

    Castle Siege

    • Sieges are where plenty of fighting takes place, and some games focus on this. The aptly named board game "Castle Siege" features a number of miniatures, distributed between attackers and defenders, which represent military units, such as archers, sappers and cannons. Players roll dice each turn to see which units can move and to determine the outcome of combat. In the "Weapons &Warriors: Castle Siege" board game, players control a base and a number of soldiers each. The game involves using mechanisms to shoot tiny balls at opposing targets and models in an attempt to eliminate an opponent's forces by literally knocking them down.

    Castle Exploration

    • These games take place in castles and find the player searching rooms, often encountering enemies. "Return To Castle Wolfenstein" for the PC is a first-person shooter set mainly in castle chambers and tombs, with the player controlling a soldier out to prevent the creation of biomechanical zombies. The game features 27 levels. The "Dungeons &Dragons: Castle Ravenloft Board Game" is based on a simplified version of the classic role-playing game and is set within the castle of an evil vampire, a place infested with monsters and the undead. The game is designed for between one and five players and includes several scenarios for replay value.
