Tag
Tag is a well-known game that provides a lot of physical exercise. One person is "it" and his job is to tag another person so that they become "it." The game involves a lot of running for everyone who is trying to avoid becoming "it," as well as the person who is doing the chasing. It also works on agility by involving quick movements to get away from the person who is trying to do the tagging.
Relay Races
This game promotes teamwork and is also a good workout. Teams are usually made up of three or more players. One person is positioned at the starting line and the others at various points along the race area. The first player starts running when the instructor says "go." The first player runs to the second player and tags his hand. The second player runs to the third player and tags his hand. The first player to reach the finish line wins the game for that team.
Hopscotch
Hopscotch is a very active game that incorporates plyometrics, which enables muscles to reach maximum force in a short amount of time. Hopscotch is jumping on both legs or one leg at a time on different squares that have numbers. If there isn't a painted hopscotch board available, it can easily be drawn on the ground with some chalk or crayon. It is a long-standing schoolyard game that offers a good amount of physical exercise and promotes coordination.
Red Light/Green Light
In this game, one person plays the "stop light." The stop light stands with his back to the group about 15-20 feet behind him. When the stop light says "green light", everyone runs toward him. At any point, the stop light can say "red light", and when he turns around, anyone who is still moving is out. The object of the game is for the runners to try to "tag" the stop light before he turns around. The stop light tries to get everyone out without being tagged. The players can take turns being the stop light so that everyone gets the chance to run.
