Games to Play With Speed Stacks

Speed Stacks, also known as Sport Stacking, is a game that originated in the 1980s in California. In 1990, the Tonight Show aired a segment on Speed Stacks and the game received national recognition. In 2007, 20,000 schools incorporated Speed Stacking into their PE education (gym class) thanks to founder Bob Fox, who was not only fascinated by the sport but who had quit his 17-year teaching job to become an advocate for Speed Stacks. The Speed Stack game involves rapidly stacking and unstacking plastic cups and helps children with ambidexterity, improves hand and eye coordination and encourages children to stay fit to compete in these games.
  1. Three Stack

    • The three-stack game is a total of nine cups divided into three even pyramid piles. The object is to up-stack the cups in a sequence that is appropriate for the three-stack game, and then down-stack them in the same sequence that they were up-stacked. The winner is the person who has the least mistakes and least amount of time on the clock timer.

    Six Stack

    • The six-stack game is a total of 12 cups in a 3-6-3 form, or three cups to the left, six cups in the middle and three cups to the right. The object is to up-stack and down-stack the cups in the right nested order of stacks when completed with no mistakes and in the least amount of time. Remember that it is not allowed to up-stack two stacks at a time.

    Cycle Stack

    • The Cycle Stack is the hardest game of all when doing Speed Stack. It involves way more steps and repeated stacking in order to complete the game. The Cycle Stack is as follows: there are a total of 12 cups; the first stack is the 3-6-3 stack, then moves into the 6-6 down-stack, then moves into the 1-10-1 stack and then into a 3-6-3 up-stack and down-stack of the two evenly piled down-stacked cups. As in all rules of Speed Stack, there cannot be two stacks up-stacked at the same time.

    Computer Speed Stacking

    • There are some games online for free that include the game Speed Stack. When doing the Internet version on the computer, it is the same concept only the stacks are already up-stacked and have keyboard letters on the cups. The game is timed and you have to type the letters of the sequence given in a rapid manner. These computer games offer the same style of the 3-6-3 stacking as the physical game. The Speed Stack game helps children with ambidexterity and hand and eye coordination and encourages children to stay fit to compete in these games.
