Toss Jonah in the Whale
We read in the book of Jonah about a man of the same name, who disobeyed God's order to preach to the people of Ninevah. God sent a big fish (often depicted as a whale) to swallow Jonah. After Jonah repented, God caused the fish to spit Jonah back out on dry land. Create a whale cut-out made of wood. Cut out a circle from the mouth of the whale. Give the children three bean bags with a pasted picture of Jonah on them. Instruct the children to toss the bags in to the mouth of the whale for a prize.
Light of the World
Matthew 5:13 through 16 reveals Jesus calling his children "the light of the world." Jesus also commands us in those verses to let our light shine before others. Set up a row of 10 candles, lighting the wicks when players are ready to begin the game. The lighted candles will remind the players of Jesus' command. Give each player a water gun and designate how far back they must stand from the candles. Instruct the players on your go to squirt out as many candles as they can. The player who extinguishes the most fires gets a prize.
Let My People Go
Exodus 7 through 12 lists the 10 plagues God used to get Pharaoh to let His people go. Remind the community by listing one plague on each tin can. Draw a picture representing the plague if you don't want to write the word. You should have water turning to blood, frogs, gnats, flies, diseased cattle, boils, hail, locusts, darkness and the death of all first-born sons. Stack the tin cans on top of each other to form a pyramid. Give one player at a time three tennis balls. The player must completely knock down each plague to win a prize.
Cross in the Haystack
All four gospels recount Jesus' death on the cross as payment for our sin. Communities can remember the importance of the cross by searching for it amongst a pile of hay. Pull apart several stacks of hay and hide a cross within it. Allow two or three players to search for the cross at the same time. The player who finds the cross first wins a prize.
