Games to Bring Couples Closer

It's a common aphorism that "relationships take work" to succeed, but they also need fun! Games and activities that focus on the positive aspects of a relationship will help bring a couple closer together by creating a safe and happy situation in which to learn more about each other and explore feelings that might be difficult to discuss in a more serious setting.
  1. Make Me Smile

    • Scientific studies have found that looking into another person's eyes for a long time and smiling creates feelings of intimacy and strengthens bonds. Play a version of the old childhood game in which one person must stare into the other's eyes and try to make them smile or laugh, while they attempt to keep a straight face. The partner trying to provoke a smile, should recall funny and intimate moments they have shared as a couple, while gazing into their partners eyes until they succumb and smile back.

    Physical Games

    • Being physically close with your partner in a non-sexual way is important in boosting trust and intimacy. Games involving touch are a great way to do this. Catch up with other couple friends and organize pair activities such as a three-legged race and piggy-back races, in which you and your partner will have fun working together as a team and being physically close in a platonic environment.

    Blindfold Taste Game

    • Trust is vital in creating intimacy and exploring different senses together will help bring you closer. For this game you should each gather a selection of unusual food (nothing that is going to taste horrible) with different flavors, textures and served at different temperatures. One partner should be blindfolded while the other one feeds them and they have to guess what the foods are, then swap roles.

    Favorite Things

    • This is a fun and positive game which can help couples learn surprising things about one another. Create a list of questions based on good moments in your relationship such as: your favorite holiday, the first time you knew you were in love, your most romantic moment and the place you are happiest. Each of you should then fill in your own answers and make a note of anything you think your partner will say differently. Then compare and discover how many ideas you share, whether you've guessed correctly about your partner and whether they've done the same for you.
