A Game Called Ladder Jacks

Ladder Jacks, a great, warm weather game perfect for yard play is also by a several other names including Ladder Toss, Ladder Golf and Hillbilly Golf. To play Ladder Jacks, you need at least one three-rung ladder, and bolos, which can be purchased, or homemade by drilling a hole in two golf balls and tying them together with nylon rope or string. Leave enough rope to allow the bolos to wrap around the ladder rungs.
  1. Players

    • Ladder Jacks can be played by two or four players. When four players are present, two teams of two players each are formed. If only two players are available, each player is his own team. If you have two ladders, each team can play on a single ladder. If not, teams face each other on either side of the same ladder. Each player has three bolos.

    Rules

    • The winner of Ladder Jacks is the team who first scores exactly 21 points. The game is played by rounds; during a round each player will throw three bolos. All bolos are left hanging on the ladder until each player has taken a turn; knocking your opponent's bolos from the rungs is encouraged, to reduce their points. If the bolo lands on the top ladder rung, a player scores three points, the second rung has a value of two points and the bottom rung in worth one point. The winner of each round goes first in the subsequent round. If a player scores more than the points needed to achieve 21 points during a round, all his points for that round are discounted and play continues.
