Group Active Games

Active games get the blood pumping, help you stay healthy and are a good way to spend time with your friends. A huge range of active games are available which can help break the ice among new people. Depending on the size of your group, some of these games may be preferable over others.
  1. Mirroring

    • The "Mirror" game is a fun choice for groups to warm up their muscles and interact with one another. In this game, participants break off into pairs of two, and one person from each pair is assigned to be the Leader while the other participant is the Mirror. The Mirror's job is to recreate whatever physical movements the Leader performs, as if she were literally a reflection of that person's image. This game can start off simple, but the Leader can start increasing the challenge of her movements until the Mirror is unable to match them.

    Outdoor Games

    • Loads of active outdoor games are enjoyable in groups; some common favorites include variations on the game of "Tag." Examples of this include "Zombies," in which each person who's tagged becomes a Zombie and assists the original player in tagging everyone else; the last non-Zombie left is the winner.

Another variation is Capture the Flag, in which two teams each have a flag located at their base. The goal of the game is to steal the other team's flag and bring it back to your own base -- however, if you're tagged by the other team on their half of the playing field, you're a Prisoner and must slowly walk back to your own base before you can try again.

    Computer Games

    • Active games don't have to remain outdoors; there are plenty of choices for groups that want to enjoy computer-based activities. A popular choice is games using the Wii or Kinect devices, which each have a wide variety of choices available. For example, "Wii Sports Resort" includes several activities within one game.

    Relay Racing

    • Relay races are a classic choice for groups looking for an active game. In a relay race, the guests split into two teams, and a number of challenges are set (for example, hopping on one foot to the end of the play area and back again). Once the first participant finishes the first task, he tags the next member of his team. Depending on the rules, this team member then performs the same challenge, or has to complete the next in a line of different tasks. This is an opportunity to be creative, and tasks can be as straightforward or complex as feels suitable.
