Sizes of Pool Tables in Bars

There are three different pool table sizes bars can choose to have in their facilities: 5 feet by 9 feet, 4 feet by 8 feet and 3 1/2 feet by 7 feet. Most bars chose the smallest size table due to space limitations and the ability to put more tables in their available space. Many people go to a bar just to play pool and bars charge money for use of the tables, so the more tables they have, the better.
  1. Largest Table

    • The largest pool table a bar could have is 5 feet by 9 feet. This is not a common size table for bars since it takes up a lot of space. However, many pool halls have tables this size. Professional pool players play their tournaments on 5 feet by 9 feet tables. Pool halls tend to draw more serious pool players, so they have these larger tables in their facilities.

    Mid-Size Table

    • This is not a common size table, but some bars do have this size. There are no professional tournaments and few bar tournaments or league play that happen on this size table. Since they are not popular with players, most bars don't invest in this size table.

    Smallest Table

    • The 3 1/2 feet by 7 feet table is the most common size bar pool table. It takes up the least amount of space and is easier for most players since the distance between the pockets is shorter. Most bar league play and bar tournaments are held on this size table. This size is also the most space-efficient for bars. This size table is also known as a bar box.
