Shuffleboard Table Specs

The origins of shuffleboard date back to 15th Century England when the game was played with coins. Tournaments in New York City in the 1800s further popularized the game, which became a nationwide hit in the United States during the 1950s. The shuffleboard table specifications have seen some changes over the years, but in general, the game has remained the same.
  1. Dimensions

    • When shuffleboard began, the table stretched 30 feet long. The length steadily declined and today, the standard length for a tournament shuffleboard table is 22 feet. People installing a shuffleboard at home will likely have to get a smaller table to fit in a recreation room. Tables ranging from 9 feet to 14 feet are also common. The shuffleboard table also stands about 30 inches tall and 20 inches wide.

    Materials

    • A shuffleboard table is made from polished wood, typically maple wood, however, oak and mahogany are acceptable substitutes. A synthetic, plastic laminate coating is placed on top of the wood. This protects the table from damage. With these materials in place, the board is coated with one of a variety of waxes. Different waxes produce different speeds, giving players the opportunity to control the quickness of the discs. The wax should be applied monthly for best results.
