Water Pollution Games

Water pollution is an important environmental concern, so it's little surprise that game designers have created titles that promote awareness of the issue in an entertaining fashion. Teachers can use these games to educate their students about the causes and dangers of water pollution; other individuals may simply play these games for fun. Some of the online games require an up-to-date version of Flash to be installed before play.
  1. What's Wrong with This Picture?

    • This game, which can be found on the Environmental Protection Agency's website, features an illustration in which several potentially dangerous scenarios are taking place in a suburban scene; some of these are connected with water pollution. The player must locate several spots on-screen where dangerous activities are being highlighted; doing so brings up an explanation of the activity. For example, clicking on the man pouring oil down a drain provides an insight into why this can damage water supplies.

Clean Water: The Water Pollution Game

    • This board game, published by Urban Systems Inc. places players in the role of water pollution officials, out to stop the causes of pollution to keep a lake safe and healthy. During the game, players move around the board and collect organisms, which help to populate each individual's lake. Along the way, each player encounters pollution --- from nearby industry, for instance --- and must try to overcome it. Other activities in the game include the managing finances and handling applications for federal funding.

    Water Dash

    • This simple Web browser game at the Citizens for Global Solutions site stars a penguin, controlled by the player. The player moves the penguin from side to side along the screen in an attempt to catch as much healthy water --- represented by dark blue liquid --- as possible in a bucket. The player must try to avoid catching black-colored contaminated water.

    Kure Waste Chase

    • This Web game at PBS.org takes place on a beach, with the player in the driver's seat of a litter-picking cart, out to trawl the sands for materials that could damage the nearby marine environment. The player steers the cart using the keyboard or mouse, and must collect debris by touching each piece using the cart. The player should avoid rocks and other hazards that will slow the cart down; time is crucial, since the player only has a few minutes to finish the level.

    Robo Poop

    • This online game by Scottish Water Education tasks players with guiding a ship through a sewer. The player must avoid various objects, such as used plasters, which might clog up a sewer and damage a water supply, while collecting beneficial items such as extra ammunition. The player can fire her guns with the space button to clear a path. Bump into too many objects, though, and the ship explodes.
