Things You'll Need
Instructions
Meet with members of your club who are interested in participating in designing and making a board game. Discuss real existing board games to help gain perspective about potential designs. Talk about the component parts that make up the game and decide to use a computer, make it by hand, or pay for additional assistance. Decide on a time frame, a budget, and get volunteers to sign up for specific tasks. Choose a name for the game.
Delegate work to team members and make sure they understand their tasks and timeframes. Assign people to get materials like cardboard and draw out the game board, or do draw up designs on the computer. Get someone who can draw freehand, or use computer software such as Adobe Illustrator to draw the prototype game board, cards and play money. Once you're satisfied that the board, cards and money look good, get them printed up and pressed onto the cardboard. Design a cover for the game box. Use professional design and printing services, or do it yourself if you have the equipment and skills.
Establish a set of game rules for players to use. Make up rules or pattern them after existing games that are familiar to your group. Include how many players can play, how to win, and what are the game penalties. Tell how to score the game and to know when the game begins and ends. Print out game rules.
Get any required game pieces that will help players identify their pieces on the board. Use trinkets or go to a hobby store to purchase individual pieces.
Make a box and lid to accommodate the game boards and all playing pieces. Use cardboard and measure it to fit the length of the board. Print the game box design on semi-gloss paper and fix it to cover the cardboard box. Use a gum-based glue to avoid lumps in the paper. Glue game rules to the inside of the box.
