How to Get on Family Feud

Originally created by Mark Goodson and Bill Todman, Family Feud is a game show on which two families square off against each other. Each family competes to answer survey-type questions that were asked of 100 random people. Teams score points by getting answers right. The winner of the game then selects two family members to compete in the final round for a larger cash prize. Family Feud first hit the airwaves in 1976, with then host Richard Dawson. Since then, Ray Combs, Louie Anderson, Richard Karn, John O'Hurley and Steve Harvey have all served as hosts. You, too, can become a contestant.

Instructions

Select members of your family to make up your team. According to the rules of Family Feud, the people on your team must be related by blood, marriage or adoption. Also, at the audition, the show may cut some members depending on what they want for upcoming episodes. For example, there might be an episode dedicated to "sisters."

Go to the official website or call the hotline. See the "Resources" section below for their official tryout website. You can also follow Family Feud on social networking websites. The phone number is (323) 762-8467. These locations will tell where and when auditions will be held.

Practice your Family Feud skills. There are home board game versions, video game versions and even the official website for Family Feud that allows you to practice your skills. Try to align your survey answers with the top four, five or six answers to a given category.

Go to the Family Feud audition. At the audition, the producers will direct you to play a simulated version of the game. They may ask some family members to step back from the audition, and others to come forward as they form their group of five. It is also a good idea to bring official documentation such as birth records, marriage certificates and adoption papers so that you can prove how you are all related.

Be interesting and have lots of energy. Remember you are trying to be a guest on a major television game show. They want interesting, enthusiastic people to be contestants. You should appear fun and excited to be auditioning for the show. They are also looking for people who are comfortable interacting with the host of the show. If the producers ask you questions, respond with enthusiasm.
