Fun Youth Inside Games

When inclement weather keeps children from playing outdoors, plan games they can play indoors to prevent boredom. Youth games allow children the opportunity to learn new skills, such as problem solving and team building, while having fun. Handing out prizes to game winners will encourage the children to participate in the games.
  1. Marshmallow Towers

    • Divide the players into groups of three or four. Give each team a bag of miniature marshmallows and a bag of uncooked spaghetti noodles. Tell the teams they have 10 minutes to build the tallest tower using only the items provided. At the end of 10 minutes, the team with the tallest standing tower wins the game.

    Up and Down Cups

    • Use masking tape to mark a line down the middle of the room. On one-half of the room, place 20 cups right side up and on the other half, place 20 cups upside down. Divide the players into two groups. Tell one group they are the "ups" and the other group they are the "downs." When you say, "Go," the "ups" must flip all the cups that are facing up to facing down and the "downs" must turn all their cups facing up. The first team to flip all their cups in the correct direction wins the game.

    Obstacle Course

    • Make an indoor obstacle course using random household items. For example, use chairs for the children to maneuver over and under, rolled up towels for walking lines, inflatable beach rings for tires and foam blocks for players to jump over. Other random household items to use include pillows, cushions, blankets and sleeping bags. Time each child individually or split the players into groups. The child or group with the fastest time wins the game.

    Indoor Snowball Fight

    • Host an indoor snowball fight using newspaper. Divide the players into two teams and give each team a newspaper. Draw a line down the center of the room using masking tape. When you say, "Fight," the players must wad and crumple up sheets of newspaper to throw on the opposing team's side of the playing area. The object of the game is to keep as many "snowballs" off your side of the playing area as possible. Players can pick up "snowballs" from their side and toss them back to the other side. After five minutes, the team with the least amount of "snowballs" on their side of the line wins the game.
