The Best TI Calculator Games

The TI-83 and TI-84 are basic graphing calculators, and most high school and college math classes suggest students own one of the two. These calculators perform basic functions like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division along with more advanced tasks like matrix multiplication and function manipulation as well. These features are pretty standard to most graphing calculators, but TI calculators are capable of a more subtle, less obvious feature as well---computer games. Although the list of TI computer games is pretty exhaustive, there are a few classics that programmers agree are the best.

Classic Frogger
- Frogger is a classic 1980's video game in which you are a small frog trying to traverse a busy road without getting hit by cars. The universal recognition of Frogger makes it one of the most popular TI calculator games. Furthermore, Frogger stands on its own as a great game. According to gamefaqs.com, Frogger is "One of the BEST Atari 2600 games, period." In addition to its high popularity, Frogger has been remade on several console systems which include Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox 360. That makes it a favorite among TI gamers.
Sci-Fi RPG
- Desolate is a Role Playing Game in which an amnesiac character must reconstruct the events of a spaceship crash from a series of puzzles. The game sports graphics that rival early Nintendo RPG's like Final Fantasy and EarthBound, but with a sci-fi twist. Desolate is filled with intricate mental puzzles and strange creatures. It was voted the "The best TI-83 RPGs ever" by gamesradar.com. In addition, calculatorti.com ranks Desolate as a "Top Rated Game."
Tetris
- In the world of block pixel programming, Tetris is one of the most simplistic games ever created. The object of the game is to interlock a series of shapes, some basic and some not, while trying to create uninterrupted rows of horizontal lines. Originally, Tetris came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System and quickly gained worldwide popularity. The version of Tetris created for TI calculators has all the same elements as the original and seems to find its way to the top of most rankings lists. Calculator ti.com claims, "This TI-84 Plus game is one of the highest quality Tetris remakes."
Super Mario Brothers
- Super Mario Brothers is a side scroll game in which two brothers must overcome an array of strange animals and obstacles in order to save a princess. The game is the flagship game of the Nintendo Entertainment System and one of the most downloaded TI calculator games. According to Tiwizard.com, "Mario is one of the most recognized characters on the planet, which is why it is no wonder that Mario has been ported to almost every TI calculator out there."
