Fun Fourth of July Games That You Can Make at Home

The 4th of July is the perfect day for family and friends to get together and have a good time. Planning some themed games will keep the day fun and interesting. If there will be children at your party, games will be a great way to keep the kids engaged and occupied.
  1. Ring Toss

    • Create your own ring toss game, and make the setup part of the game. You will need several sticks or poles, sturdy paper plates and markers, crayons or paint. Ask the game participants to decorate the plates in patriotic colors. Cut a round hole in the center of the plates to create rings. If you start early in the day, you can paint the sticks or poles red, white and blue. Just remember you'll need enough time for the paint to dry. Push or hammer the sticks into the ground and have game participants take turns trying to get the rings onto the poles.

    Bike Parade

    • This game will be particularly fun for children. Tell parents in advance to have their children bring their tricycle, bicycle or scooter to the party. Provide streamers, crepe paper, ribbons and tape in patriotic colors and patterns. Encourage the children to decorate their bikes, taping the materials provided to handle bars and seats. Older children can use scissors to curl ribbons. Once all the bikes are decorated, have the children ride down the street in their own 4th of July parade.

    Balloon Rockets

    • To create balloon rockets you will need balloons, rice or beans, strong tape, thick ribbons and scissors. Before the party, fill the balloons with a third of a cup of beans or rice. Provide the game participants with the tape, ribbons and scissors. Young children should be closely supervised while using scissors. Cut the ribbon to varying lengths, curl it and attach it securely to the end of the balloon using the tape. See who can throw their rocket the furthest or highest.

    Squirt Bottle Fun

    • Gather enough squirt bottles for all the participants of the game, patriotic-colored crepe or tissue paper and tape. Tape three or four strips of the crepe paper to the backs of everyone playing, and provide each player with a squirt bottle full of water. The goal of the game is to squirt the backs of other players, causing the crepe paper to dissolve and fall off. The last person with paper remaining on their back wins.
