Toddler Carnival Games

When planning a carnival or carnival-themed birthday party in which toddlers will attend, be sure to plan easy games for them to play. With lots of energy and short attention spans, toddlers need games that do not take a lot of effort and time. Award the toddlers with small prizes for their participation, to have them ready for the next carnival-style game.
  1. Sand Treasure Dig

    • Fill a small plastic swimming pool with play sand. Purchase miniature plastic treasure chests online or from your local party supply store. Write "Prize Bag #1," "Prize Bag #2" and "Prize Bag #3" on small slips of paper. Place the slips of paper in the treasure chests and put a rubber band around each one to keep it closed. Bury the chests in the play sand. Make three prize bags with different prizes in each bag. Each toddler can dig a treasure chest out of the sand. He can then select a prize out of the corresponding prize bag.

    Penny Can Toss

    • Take several metal cans and wrap them with colored paper. Place masking tape on the bottom of the cans and stick the cans on cardboard. Mark a starting line about 3 feet away from the cans. Give the toddlers five pennies each to try to toss into the cans. Award a small prize to each toddler who gets a penny in a can.

    Squirt the Balls

    • Wrap foam bricks with contact paper and press one golf tee into each brick. Foam bricks are available at most retail stores and online. Place a ping-pong ball on each one of the golf tees. Mark a standing line about 3 to 4 feet away from the foam bricks. Give each child a water gun and have her try to shoot the ping-pong balls off the golf tees. Award prizes to the children who knock off the ping-pong balls.

    Elephant Ring Toss

    • Paint a cardboard box like an elephant's face. Use gray poster board to make the elephant's ears. Glue an old vacuum or plastic hose to the front of the cardboard to resemble his truck. Place a coat hanger inside the hose so you can bend the truck up in the air. Give each child three plastic rings, or make your own using rope and duct tape. The children must stand on a starting line about 4 feet away and try to toss the rings on the elephant's trunk. Award a prize to each child who rings the elephant's trunk.
