Adventure Games
In adventure games, children assume the role of a character and interact with characters or objects in the game. Kids focus on a storyline and possibly complete puzzles and other activities. Nickelodeon has plenty of games for children who enjoy adventure. "SpongeBob and the Clash of Triton" is an adventure game where children play SpongeBob SquarePants and release Triton from his cage, which turns out to be a mistake. Triton wreaks havoc on the citizens of Bikini Bottom so it's up to SpongeBob to save the day by defeating Triton's army. In "iCarly's iSpace Out," kids will play Carly, who is lost in space. In order to find her way home, children will have to defeat alien spacecraft with her laser gun and avoid any obstacles in the game. "Danny Phantom's Freak For All" is another adventure game where a circus maniac has escaped and kids will have to defeat the laser-gun-bearing robots and avoid obstacles to find the missing gems before the villain gets to them.
Action Games
Action games focus on physical challenges like fighting, shooting or defeating "bad guys." Hand-eye coordination is usually the main technique needed for the game. Nickeloden has action games such as "Power Rangers Samurai" where children become one of their favorite Power Ranger characters and walk through a chosen scene and make their way to the end. During the journey, they must fight bad guys with their Power Ranger moves. In "SpongeBob Bubble Bros," kids blow bubbles to trap the bad guys and then pop them to get rid of them, all while doing their best to grab the bonus Krabby Patties and other objects. In "Faeries of Fury," Timmy from the Fairly Odd Parents wishes to be more like his favorite video game superhero. His fairy godparents grant his wish and Timmy has to fight various characters in the game with standard moves and special attacks.
Card Games
Card games consist of a deck of cards that are the main object of play in the game. There are traditional playing cards and cards that are specific to the game. Nickelodeon features dozens of card games including "Poop Deck Draw Dawn" where SpongeBob has to collect four cards with matching numbers. Each time four cards that match are drawn, children grab a spatula from the table. Any players who do not have a spatula when the game is over loses the round and receives a "strike." After three strikes, a player is out. In "SkipperSkidoo," kids assume the role of one of the Penguins from Penguins of Madagascar. The game is similar to the family card game "Uno." Kids must match the top card on the discard pile by letters, colors or numbers and if no match is available, they must draw a new card. There are special cards in the game that players can use for various purposes, like changing the color, causing everyone to draw a card or destroying the discard pile.
Strategic Games
Strategy games require decision-making skills. In "iCarly's Cafeteria Recyclo-Rama," children need to recycle items on lunch trays by grabbing the trays as they slide down the counter and dumping the items into the correct color-coded bin. As the game progresses, the trays slide faster and more slide down the counter at one time. In "Fred's Figglehorn Fling," you must use a body slingshot to send Fred flying through the air over obstacles such as a pool, fences and bullies. The purpose is to get Fred to Judy's (his crush) house. In "Megamind," kids participate in a number of activities such as missions and puzzles to pass or fail. Three fails and you're out.
