How to Use 100 Toggle Switches Game

The 100 switches game is a puzzle invented in 1960 by Elwyn Berlekamp. In this game, players are tasked with turning off all of the one hundred light bulbs on a board by making use of toggle switches on the side of the board. While the game is easy to play, mastering it can prove to be difficult.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip one of the switches on the bottom of the board. This will change the state of all the bulbs in that particular column. This means that any light bulbs that are on will turn off, and vice versa.

    • 2

Flip one of the switches on the left of the board. This will change the state of all the bulbs in that particular row. This means that any light bulbs that are on will turn off, and vice versa.

    • 3

Flip the switches as you see fit. The object of the game is to turn on the smallest number of light bulbs that you can.
