Flag Football
If you have a group of kids, divide them into two teams consisting of five to seven players each. Name each team after the teams playing in the Super Bowl. You may even purchase the team jerseys of the teams playing in the actual Super Bowl. As an alternative, kids can simply wear the colors of the teams they represent. In flag football, each team member must wear flags, which the opposite team can pull off in lieu of tackling. For added fun, each team can run plays common to the teams playing in the actual Super Bowl. Be sure to record the final score of the game and compare it with the score of the actual Super Bowl to see how you matched up!
Capture the Flag
Like the game of football, Capture the Flag is a game of strategy. Break your group into two teams of at least three with the objective of capturing the other team's flag without being caught. To play, each team must hang their flag in their respective territory and assign players to protect the flag. Name each team the name of the teams playing in the Super Bowl. Kids can wear the colors of the Super Bowl team they represent as well.
Super Bowl Video Games
While the adults are watching the big game, kids can play Super Bowl video games in the next room. Set up different gaming consoles like Wii and PlayStation 3 to play football video games like John Madden or Backyard Football. Kids can play the teams competing in the Super Bowl as their favorite players. Competing in play-off style games will keep the video games interesting enough to last a few hours.
Football Scrabble
Gather the older kids around for a game of football scrabble. Kids can play on multiple boards or play on teams. Using a standard scrabble board and tiles, have the kids create football-related words like "touchdown," "kick" or "hike." Allow kids to also use the names of football players, stadiums and coaches as valid words. Sportscaster names can be appropriate as well. Add bonus points for the names of Super Bowl hall-of-famers.
