How to Motorize the LEGO 8294

The Lego Technic 8294 is the excavator model which has realistic movements resembling those of the real thing. The Technic 8294 features a moving arm which can be lowered and raised, as well as extended and used to move the bucket, to collect sand and other materials. The cab section rotates, and the excavator has caterpillar tracks that move and allow the model to drive. The excavator can be motorized by adding a motor set to it as the original set features all of the plugs necessary to do this.

  Build the Lego Technic 8294 according to its instructions. Make sure that this is done correctly and note down all of the connectors that are used as they are going to be used with the motor. There are two cables with plastic connectors and a rotating wheel which can make this model move when powered. The instructions come with the model and can also be downloaded from the Lego website.

  Purchase the 8293 Power Functions Motor Set from the Lego site or at a toy or department store.

  Install the motor by assembling it as shown in the instructions that come with it. The motor will need to be positioned so that it powers that rotating wheel of the excavator, and plugged into the two cables located on the built model.

  Turn on the motor to motorize the LEGO 8294 Technic Excavator.
