List for a Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt for Kids

A scavenger hunt is a great game that can be played at all ages. Set a time limit for the game and pick a designated spot to meet at the end time. Compose a list of items to look for in a specified area, including both easy and difficult to find items.
  1. Four Leaf Clover

    • Four leaf clovers are relatively uncommon variations of three leaf clovers.

A four leafed clover is a difficult item to find in any neighborhood, and possibly no one will find one. To make it more fun, allow the kids to make an item from other things or draw a picture of the item if they can't find it.

    Feather

    • Birds lose feathers and replace them with new feathers.

A feather should be an easy item to find, but it may be difficult. It could be a feather from a bird, from a feather duster or from a boa.

    Rubber Duck

    • Rubber ducks are sometimes found in the bathroom of families with small children. However, not every household owns one, so this may be a more difficult item to collect.

    Basketball

    • Different sized basketballs are used for different ages.

This is an easy item to find in most neighborhoods. If they can't find a real basketball, kids can use an orange balloon with black lines, or a basketball player poster.

    Yearbook

    • Yearbooks are collected by many families and should be an easy item to find. Make sure that the kids ask permission before taking this item out of the house.

    Rubber Bands

    • Rubber bands come on broccoli in the grocery store and are used to keep mail together.

Rubber bands are simple items, but it can be difficult to find one when it is needed.

    Picture of the State Flag

    • Some kids don't know what their state flag looks like so this item can provide a learning experience. Kids will have to look up what it looks like, and either find one or draw a picture of one.
