Good Games for Boy Scouts

For boys participating in Boy Scout activities, it is hard to beat playing a fun game with friends in the same troop. While it may seem difficult for troop leaders and helpers alike to come up with games for the boys to play, it is in fact very easy to pick and find an enjoyable game for all.
  1. Hand-Eye Coordination Games

    • A type of game that is a lot of fun for Boy Scouts while improving their motor skills is hand-eye coordination games. These types of games are usually done with objects players can throw at one another. Games such as "Five-Hundred" will increase hand-eye coordination as it is played over time because the game forces boys to chase a frisbee around the play area in hopes of being the first to grab it. These games are the most traditional types of games as they are in the same vein as basketball, baseball and football.

    Balancing Games

    • A genre of game that forces boys to improve stability is balancing games. These games force boys to keep their feet grounded and level in an attempt to win the game. While these games are usually played on land, they can also be played in the water. One of the most famous games of this type that is played in the water is known as "Chicken Fight," in which two boys get on two other boys' shoulders. The two boys on top must attempt to knock each other off of the other's shoulders, thus forcing all four boys to play a balancing act that will help the other to keep standing. A variation of this (known as "Chicken Fighting") can also be played on land in which each boy holds his own leg and attempts to knock the other onto the ground by using his shoulders.

    Water Games

    • Water games are a popular type of game to play during the summer heat. By playing games in the water, boys will cool off while having a good time. They will also get some practice in swimming and moving about in the water. "Greasy Watermelon" is such a game that consists of placing a watermelon coated with shortening in the middle of the area the boys are swimming. Much like football, teams of two are created and each team is attempting to take the watermelon to the other team's designated end-zone without raising the watermelon out of the water and without dropping it.

    Strength games

    • Strength games are ideal to play for a Boy Scout to test his strength. Do not be afraid of letting them play games that challenge strength, as most of the boys will be excited about playing a type of game like this. Because there is a potential for them to get hurt, make sure to keep a close eye on them so they are not getting too rough. Simple activities such as having an arm-wrestling tournament and a classic game of "Tug-o-War" is sure to make the boys have a good time.
