Games That Deal With Teamwork

Whether you have a sports team, a class full of students or a group of workers, you may encounter problems when it comes to cooperation and mutual respect. To build a sense of unity and teamwork, you may have to intervene by providing your group with some games to help bring them together.
  1. Running of the Blind

    • Create two lines of players with about 5 ft. separating the two lines. Have the members of each line stand side by side. Have the members of each line face the other line. Pick one player to start. He stands at one end of the two lines, blindfolded. When you say "Go," he runs through the gap between the lines and stops only when the last players in line, facing each other, hold out their arms to catch him from going any farther. This helps develop a sense of trust among your group. Continue playing until all the players have had a turn.

    Letters from Limbs

    • Divide the group into teams of about four or five. They assemble themselves around the corners of the room. When ready, call out a random letter from the alphabet. The group quickly position themselves on the ground to form the letter using their collective limbs. The first team to form the letter earns a point. Continue playing for several rounds, or until you have gone through all 26 letters. The team with the most points at the end wins.

    Searching for Colors

    • Divide the group into teams of four players each. Cut 10 different-colored pieces of yarn for each team and hide the pieces around the play space. Give each team a list of the 10 different colors of yarn they have to look for. When you say "Go," the teams all race to find the pieces of yarn. The teams can decide whether players spread out to search for a particular color or whether they all stay together to find the yarn. The first team to find all the pieces wins.

    Electricity

    • Create two lines of an equal number of players standing side by side. Position the lines so they face each other. Place a chair at one end of the lines with a ball on it. Stand at the other end of the lines, in between the two players of either line. Tell everyone to hold hands with the person next to her. Flip a coin and show it to the two end players. If heads, the players should squeeze the hand of the teammate beside them. This goes on down the line until the last player receives a squeeze and grabs the ball on the chair. The first team to grab the ball gets a point. If tails, they should do nothing. If they accidentally do squeeze their teammates' hands, the team loses a point. Play until one team, the winner, gets to 10 points first.
