Flashlight Tag
The only requirements for Flashlight Tag are an open, hazard-free area, a flashlight for each player and a minimum of four players. Players should separate into teams of two. Each team should create a signal, using the flashlights. After the teams have established a flashlight signal, everyone scatters and teams separate. Teams use flashlights to make a signal and try to reunite with their team member. The first team to reunite wins.
Three Sticks
Three Sticks is another game to play at night. Each two-player team should be given three sticks, which are used to build a pyramid. Each team must guard its pyramid from the opposing team, while trying to destroy the other team's pyramid. Each team earns one point for each successful attempt to destroy the other team's pyramid. Play Three Sticks in an area that's free from hazards.
Blind Eagle
Blind Eagle is another nighttime game that requires the use of one flashlight. One person stands in the middle of a field and is the "eagle." An "assistant" stands beside the "eagle" and all other players form a circle around the perimeter of the field. The assistant gives the signal to begin. The participants around the perimeter move toward the "eagle," as quietly as possibly. If the eagle hears a sound, he switches on the flashlight and points it in the direction of the noise. The assistant determines if there is a player in the beam of the light. If so, the player standing in the beam of light is out of the game. The first player to tag the eagle wins.
Glow Stick Games
Many games played during the daylight hours can be adapted for nighttime play through the use of glow sticks. Glow sticks are plastic tubes, filled with a glow-in-the-dark substance, can be found in retail stores. Players can use glow sticks to play Tag, by using a red glow stick for the person who is "it." All other players should wear the same color. Wear glow sticks to play soccer at night. Each team should wear a different color glow stick. Additionally, you can attach glow sticks to stakes to play horseshoes at night.
