Erupting Volcanoes
Volcano enthusiasts compete to make an erupting volcano that produces the biggest explosion. Players place a 590 ml soda bottle, sans the cap, in the middle of a baking pan. Using 6 cups of dirt, players pour the dirt around the bottle to form a mountain and add a little water to help the dirt stick together. After pouring 1 tbsp. of baking soda into the bottle, players add a few drops of red food coloring to 1 cup of vinegar. Pouring the red liquid into the bottle of baking soda produces carbon dioxide, which builds up pressure and forces the red liquid to spray from the bottle and down the dirt mountain.
South Park Volcano
Players clear a path for lava to run through in "South Park Volcano," accessible at sites like FlashRolls. After a volcano explodes, molten lava threatens the town of South Park. Players left-click a tile to rotate it clockwise, connecting tile pieces to form a path from the start point to the exit. If they cannot form a clear path for the lava before time runs out, players lose a life. Players advance to the next level if they make a clear path and the lava does not explode. As players progress through the game, they score character power-ups that add time to the clock, freeze lava and help clear obstacles. The game ends when players lose all of their lives.
Volcano
Using the assets of different animals, players try to escape scorching lava running across the screen in "Volcano," accessible at sites like Fupa. Players press the "Up" arrow key to jump and "Left" and "Right" arrow keys to move in those directions. Each creature possesses particular abilities that help it overcome obstacles in the game. To transform from one creature to another, players press the "C" key to change into a mouse, the "X" key to change into a monkey and the "Z" key to change into a panther. The game ends if the lava catches up to the players.
Volcano Explorer
Aside from learning about volcanoes, players have the opportunity to build a volcano in "Volcano Explorer," accessible at the Discovery Kids site. Players click "Virtual Volcano" and use their mouse to set gas and viscosity levels. Moving the arrows up and down until reaching desired gas and viscosity levels, players then click "Set Conditions." The screen brings up the volcano image and indicates the type of volcano. Players click "Start Eruption" to see their volcano creation in action and its level of impact.
Volcano Jump
