Family Water Activities

With work and school, families are often busy in their own lives and need a chance to regroup. Take a break from school and work by enjoying a hot summer day with your family. Participate in family water activities and give family members a chance to regroup, relax and bond with one another. A few supplies, family members and water are all you need to get started.
  1. Beach Question Ball

    • Go to a nearby lake or enjoy this activity in your pool at home. Purchase a beach ball and write several questions on the ball such as, "What was the highlight of your week," "Did you do anything exciting at work or school this week" and "What was your favorite food dish you ate this week?" in permanent marker. Hit the ball to one another in the pool and as each person catches the ball, they must answer the question under their left thumb.

    Water Bottle Relay

    • Fill a large bucket with water and give each family member a 4 oz. paper cup. Write the name of each family member on a 20 ounce soda bottle that is clean and dry. Mark a starting line and place the large bucket of water next to the line. Mark another line about 20 feet away and place all the soda bottles on the line. The family will line up at the starting line and one person will yell, "Go." Each player must fill their 4 ounce cup from the large bucket and run to their bottle to fill it up. The first player to fill up their soda bottle with water wins the game.

    Water Recreation

    • Visit local lakes, rivers and oceans to see about water recreation activities for your family. Some activities available include kayaking, swimming, boating, skiing, rafting, renting paddle boats, sailing and scuba diving. These water activities will allow families to spend quality time together.

    Shaving Cream Off

    • For a messy water game that is perfect for the backyard, try a shaving cream off. Each family member will need a partner. One partner will cover their body with shaving cream only leaving around the eyes and mouth open. Be sure to wear old clothes as the shaving cream can stain them. Wear protective goggles to keep the shaving cream from going in the eyes. Once everyone has their partner covered in shaving cream, they will stand behind a marked line that is about 10 feet away. Each person will have two or three water guns to shoot at their partner. The first person to squirt all the shaving cream off their partner using only the water guns is the winner. Partners must keep their hands behind their back while their partner is shooting the water.
