Team Water Games

During the summer months, both kids and adults like to get wet to cool off. Water games provide a fun way to cool down while competing. Devising creative and unique team games makes youth group meetings, family gatherings and camp experiences unforgettable. Everyone gets involved and everyone gets wet.
  1. Water Balloon Catapult

    • Divide the group into equal teams. Give each team a partially filled water balloon. Teams sit in a straight line facing the same direction. The race starts with the water balloon at the front of the line between the first person's feet. The water balloon must be passed from the first person's feet over her head to the person behind her, and on down the line. If the water balloon breaks or falls, the team must start over with a new water balloon. The first team to pass their water balloon down the line to the last person wins, and he gets to catapult his team's balloon with his feet at the other team.

    Greased Watermelon Relay

    • Grease two large watermelons with vegetable oil. Divide into two equal teams and get into a swimming pool or lake. The water should be at least waist deep. Line up the teams side-by-side in a line facing the same direction. On "Go," the teams must pass the greased watermelon between their legs to the person behind them. When the watermelon reaches the last person, he must then pass it back forward. The first team to pass the watermelon underwater backward and frontward wins.

    Monsoon Volleyball

    • Play a normal game of volleyball on a sand or grass course outside. The only difference is you hook up at least two water hoses on both sides of the court. During the game the hose operators randomly spray players, especially while they are trying to hit the volleyball.

    Underwater Football

    • Play a normal game of touch football, except each play must take place underwater. The team with the ball gets four plays to touch the other side of the pool wall before being touched. During a play any competitor who comes up out of the water disqualifies himself from that play. Players should all wear goggles while competing.

    Water Balloon Dodgeball

    • Teams stand on opposite sides of a line or outdoor volley ball court. Have a healthy supply of water balloons for each team. A player sits out of the game when he is either hit or his throw is caught by the other team without the water balloon breaking. A team wins when all the other team's members go out.

    Hole in the Bucket Relay

    • Divide teams into equal numbers. For each team competing, you need to have a large trashcan filled with water on one end, an empty bucket on the other end and a large coffee can with several holes on the bottom and sides punched out with a nail. Make sure to punch the holes from the outside in so jagged edges are on the inside of the can. Teams start on the opposite end from the trash can. The first team member runs over and fills the coffee can with water. Holding the leaking can over his head, he runs back to his team and begins filling the empty bucket with what's left of his water. Then the next member of the team does the same. The winner is the team that fills their bucket first.
