Rainforest-Themed Games

When you're planning a rainforest-themed birthday party or teaching your students about the rainforest, incorporate rainforest-themed games to enrich the activity and the kids' experience. From an energetic game of "find a lily pad" to a competitive monkey bean-bag toss, enthusiastic players and a few supplies from your local craft store is all you need to get started.
  1. Find A Lily Pad

    • Draw and cut several lily pads out of green construction paper. Spread the lily pads all over the floor and put out one less lily pad than you have players. Play jungle music and have the children hop around the lily pads like frogs. When the music stops, the players must find a lily pad. The person not standing on a lily pad is out of the game. Remove one lily pad for each new round, so there is always one less lily pad than players. The last player standing wins the game. Be sure the person controlling the music cannot see the players, to help keep the game fair.

    Monkey Beanbag Toss

    • Draw a picture of a monkey on a large poster board and purchase a couple of beanbags from your local craft store. Tape the picture of the monkey on the bottom of a cardboard box. Cut out the mouth of the monkey so players can try to toss beanbags through the monkey's mouth to "feed" him. Lean the box up against a wall so it will stand up. Give each player five tries to "feed" the monkey; each player that gets a beanbag through the mouth wins a small prize.

    Rainforest Critter Memory

    • Print several pictures of rainforest critters, such as frogs, monkeys, bugs, elephants, birds and snakes, on small pieces of paper. Print two of each critter and laminate each one so it will last longer. Mix up the cards and place them face down on a table. The kids can then play a game of rainforest critter memory using the critter cards. If a player finds a match, she keeps the pair and gets to go again. If she misses, it's the next player's turn. The player who finds the most matches wins the game.

    Monkey Impression Contest

    • Host a monkey impression contest by judging players on their monkey impressions. Each player stands up one at a time and does his best imitation of the sounds and actions a monkey makes. Award prizes to the best, funniest and scariest monkey.
