How to Make a Portable Washer Game

Washers is a popular outdoor game where players compete in teams of two, as in horse shoes, to attempt to throw their washers into a scoring box. Each box contains raised edges for catching washers thrown into it and a PVC pipe in the center of the box. Players receive points for shots in the box, commonly 1 point; in the pipe, commonly 3 points; and sitting atop the edges of the box, commonly 5 points. Shots into the same scoring area by opposing teams cancel each other out.

Things You'll Need

Plywood, 1 inch thick
Yard stick
Pencil
Saw
Wood 2-by-4
Wood screws
Power screwdriver
PVC pipe, 4-inch diameter
Liquid nails
6 washers, 2-inch diameter
Spray paint, two colors, matte finish

Instructions

  Cut two pieces of plywood, 17 inches by 17 inches each.

  Cut four planks of 2-by-4, each 17 inches long, and four planks of 2-by-4, each 14 inches long.

  Arrange the eight planks into two squares, with a pair of 14-inch planks situated between a pair of 17-inch planks in each square, and secure in place with eight screws into each box.

  Place a square of plywood atop each plank square and secure in place with screws through the wood into the sides of the planks.

  Cut two pieces of PVC pipe, each 3 1/2 inches long.

  Glue one pipe piece into the center of each wood box.

  Paint the washers with all-weather matte finish paint. Use two colors, with three washers of each color.
