Dungeons and Dragons
The pen-and-paper role-playing game "Dungeons and Dragons" (or "D&D") has been around since 1975, and has proved enduringly popular since then; in 2011, the game is in its fourth edition. Groups of players take on the roles of fantasy characters such as wizards and knights, and explore medieval worlds full of monsters and mystery, sometimes with the aid of a game board and plastic models representing each character, but often simply using their imaginations. Though "D&D" games can vary immensely in their content, dragons feature as a common and iconic enemy of the players, as the title would suggest. These creatures come in a variety of colors and sizes, but are typically difficult for players to defeat.
Runescape
According to Guinness World Records in 2011, the Internet-based online multiplayer role-playing game "Runescape" is the most popular of its genre worldwide. Set in a fantasy world, players take on the role of warriors or magicians and can interact with other players, build up their skills and battle monsters. Dragons are among the many enemies players can face, and have become more populous since the release of the game's second edition. Dragons which players can slay in "Runescape" include metal, colored and Brutal dragons. These are tough enemies, and players require specific protective items known as Anti-Dragonfire shields before they can hope to beat a dragon, as the Zybez website notes.
Dragon Slayer
This simple shooting game is available to play for free online. The player controls a wizard tasked with defending a tower from hordes of dragons who appear from the air. The player must shoot the dragons with his magic wand before the dragons can destroy the tower using their fireballs. Aim and look around using the mouse; pressing the left mouse button fires the wand. The remaining health of the tower can be checked using the bar in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.
Dragon Age: Origins
This title is a fantasy video game designed for the PC, developed by the BioWare company. Players explore and build lives within an immersive medieval world, and while there are a huge variety of in-game activities available, the game's central plot revolves around a quest to defeat a dragon named Archdemon, who is threatening to end all life in the world.
