Fall-Related Active Games

Fall is a great time to be creative with themed games because so many fun holidays fall in the autumn season. Almost every game could be spiced up with a little turkey or pumpkins. Try to use Halloween or Thanksgiving decorations as props for new fall games. Also try to take advantage of the cool, crisp, autumn air and focus on outdoor games.
  1. Harvest Relay Races

    • For a fall festive and eco-friendly relay race, try using sunflower bird seeds. On one end of the field or lawn, have a soup ladle (or cup) full of the sunflower bird seeds. On the other end, have a large clear container. Relay back and forth until the first team fills up the large container. The game is eco-friendly because birds will later come and eat the spilled seeds.

    Football

    • Football is a favorite Thanksgiving game. However, try to mix things up to make it more fall-related. For example, decorate the football as a turkey. For younger children who can't play football, try playing football tag. The rules are the same as tag but a runner can avoid being caught by calling out a favorite football team or player before being "tagged."

    Musical Bales

    • This game is a delightful version of "Musical Chairs." Use bales of hay instead of chairs. Use scarecrows for decoration for extra fun. This game can come at the end or beginning of a hay ride for a whole day of fun.

    Indoor Active Games

    • "Find the Turkey" is a Thanksgiving version of an Easter Egg hunt. This game has two parts. First, have the participants decorate turkeys. Then hide the paper turkeys around the house and set the participants loose.

Play "Chicken, Chicken, Turkey" as a fall version of "Duck, Duck, Goose." This game is fun for younger children and is non-competitive.
