Read a book to the person. Although his vision is impaired or gone, he can still use his other senses. Find a descriptive story so he will have a clear image of the setting and characters in his mind. If the person has low vision, you may be able to watch a film with sight-impaired narration.
Put on some music to listen to. The music can be very soothing and relaxing to them. You can also put on lively music to dance to.
Cook with the person. Cooking allows someone with low vision or someone who is visually impaired to use his other senses such as taste, smell and touch. Help to excite his taste buds with new recipes.
Play games that allow the blind or visually impaired person to listen and speak. Games such as Outburst or 20 Questions can help him make use of his other senses. Musical trivia and Name That Tune can also be very fun games for a blind person to play. Playing these games with friends could also be fun and could even be turned into a competition in which a prize is awarded at the end for the highest scorer.
Exercise with the visually impaired person. Sports such as swimming, bowling, yoga, martial arts, walking and hiking are healthy activities that help release endorphins in the brain that produce a feeling of happiness or satisfaction.
