How to Tie a Knot on a Yo-Yo Spool

The yo-yo is a classic toy that spins on the end of a string and comes back to you. The spool of a yo-yo connects to one end of the string, and the other end has a loop and a knot in it for your finger to pass through. Properly stringing a yo-yo will make the difference between a yo-yo that jumps back into your hand at the end of the throw and one that falls limply to the end of the string and stays there.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the end of the yo-yo string twisted back on itself. If you look carefully you will see that the yo-yo string is made of two strands looped together. One end of the string has the two strands connected, the other has them separate.

    • 2

Untwist the last three or four inches of the connected end so you have a one-strand-thick loop. Pass the loop over your yo-yo and around the spool. If you are a beginner you can double loop around the spool of the yo-yo to give yourself more control while you are learning.

Measure the string from the yo-yo sitting on the floor to your belly button, then add three inches to that length for your finger loop. Tie a slip knot by passing the end of the string around the length creating a loop, then pass the end through the loop twice and pull the end tight. The length will now slip through the knot you tied and you can adjust string to loop over your finger. Cut off any excess string with the scissors.
