How to Screw Back in Snooker

Snooker is a game similar to billiards. It grew out of the many different games played by British soldiers in India. The game is played with 21 balls; 15 red balls are racked into a triangle. Six different colored balls are placed on specific spots on the table around the red balls. All of the colored balls are replaced on the board until they knock the red balls into pockets. The game ends when only the black ball remains on the table. The screw back shot involves giving the chosen cue a back spin as its shot.

Instructions

    • 1

Look carefully at the placement of the balls on the table. A screw back is most effective to knock a red ball into a pocket while keeping the cue ball on the table.

    • 2

Chalk the top of the cue.

    • 3

Spread your left hand flat on the snooker table in front of the cue ball. Rest the tip of the snooker cue on the back of your hand. Support the rest of the cue with your other hand.

    • 4

Move the cue back and forth to get the right feel for your shot. Aim the tip of the snooker cue to hit the cue ball near the bottom of the ball. The lower you aim on the cue ball, the more backspin the ball will achieve. Slightly to the right of the bottom angles the screw back to the left. Slightly to the left of center bottom will angle the ball to the right.
