Connecting with a Wired Connection
Plug one end of the ethernet cable into the Playstation 3 system and the other end into the modem or router depending on the type of Internet connection you have.
Select the "Settings" option from the menu that will be displayed automatically when the ethernet cable is connected. Select "Network Settings" from the options.
Select "Internet Connection Settings" and then select "Yes" when the system tells you it will disconnect from the Internet. This will give the system a fresh start with new settings for the connection.
Select "Easy" when asked to select a wiring method. The system will detect the connection. Select "Wired Connection" from the "Connection Method" screen.
Click on the "X" to save the settings. Test the connection by selecting "Test Connection." The system should connect to the Internet at this time. If the connection fails, review the settings and try again. If the connection is not working, contact your local internet provider for assistance. It may be a Internet problem or a problem with the system itself. If that is the case, the system will have to be returned or exchanged.
Connecting with a Wireless Connection
Turn on the Playstation 3 system and select the "Settings" option from the main menu and then "Network Settings."
Select the "Internet Connection Setting" option and choose "Yes" when the system states that you will be disconnected from the Internet. This will give the system a fresh start with new settings for the connection.
Select "Easy" when the system asks what type of installation you are going to use. Select "Wireless" when the system asks what type of Internet connection you want to use.
Select "Scan" and the system will search for all available Internet connections. Select your home Internet connection when it appears on the screen and enter all the security settings requested. Your home Internet connection was assigned by your Internet provider when you signed up for wireless Internet service. The encryption key was also provided when the wireless Internet was set up, so if you can't find it or don't know it, contact your Internet provider.
Save the settings and test the connection by selecting "Test Connection." If a successful connection has been made, the network information will be displayed on the screen. If the connection fails, follow the instructions to check the settings or contact your internet provider for more assistance.
