Steel Tip Darts Versus Soft Tip Darts
Steel-tip darts are aimed and thrown at a cork or sisal-fiber dartboard. Soft tip darts are played on boards attached to machines, which automatically record scores. The bull's-eye should be 5 feet, 8 inches from the floor for both soft-tip and steel-tip dart games. Soft-tip dart games have similar rules to that of steel-tip darts; however the rules of play for soft tip darts are set by the manufacturers. Steel-tip and soft-tip darts are made of wood, brass, nickel-silver or tungsten.
01 Rules
The most common version of darts is the game "01". When playing a game of "01," each player starts with the same high score; the first to bring his score down to zero wins. Each player throws three darts per turn. All points scored are subtracted from the player's total score. The player who reaches zero -- exactly -- is the winner.
Considerations
The board should be mounted securely to the wall, with some type of backboard to prevent wall damage. Place a mat on the floor between the wall and toe line to prevent damage to the floor and the darts.
