Items to Collect at a Treasure Hunt

Treasure hunts are wonderful games for children because they inspire curiosity and challenge the mind. Children are given a list of treasures to collect. The first child who collects all the treasure wins. The first item has a clue attached that leads them to the next item. The clue is usually a rhyme or riddle. The items collected on a treasure hunt vary according to the age of the children and where the game is played.
  1. Pictures

    • A picture treasure hunt is fitting for kids ages 6 and up. It allows them freedom to explore the house and surrounding areas. The premise of a picture treasure hunt is to take pictures of different items on the list. The picture can be any interpretation of the listed item. For example, if the item is a red flower, the child may take a picture of a red rose in the garden, a painting of a red flower in a store window or even a birthday cake with red flowers in the icing. Picture treasure hunts are fun because they allow players creativity and freedom of interpretation.

    Candy

    • Candy is a suitable choice for children of all ages and is a treasure in itself. Candies are small enough to hide in many different places. Most candy holds up well in a wide range of temperatures and is easily identifiable. Choose different types of candy.

    Household Items

    • Household items are easy and inexpensive treasures to hide because you don't have to purchase anything. The trick with household items is hiding them where they don't belong. Choose safe, clean items that have a definite area where they usually go. For example, a toothbrush in the cutlery drawer, the dictionary in the refrigerator and a spoon underneath a pillow are obvious and detectable clues.
