Instructions for Hanging a Dart Board

A favorite recreation in pubs, bars and taverns across North America, the game of darts is hardly a game to many British Islanders, who hold regular competitions with precise rules of engagement. In order to play by established rules, you must first hang your dartboard in a most exacting manner.

Things You'll Need

  • Dart board with steel- or soft-tipped darts
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Throw line marker
  • Hammer
  • Nail

Instructions

  1. Steel-Tipped Darts

    • 1

Measure the depth of your dartboard from back to front. Measure that distance outward from the wall on which you plan to mount the board and mark the measurement on the floor with a pencil, narrow strip of tape or anything else that will not move.

    • 2

Measure the distance from the board's depth mark 7 feet 9 1/4 inches away from the wall. This is where you place the front edge of the throw line, which should be a permanent mark or decal affixed to the floor. The thrower's leading toe must not cross this line when throwing.

    • 3

Have a friend hold the dartboard against the wall while you measure from the ground---at the point of the board's depth mark---up to a height of 5 feet 8 inches. Align the center of the dartboard's bulls-eye with this measurement and mark the wall at the top and bottom of the dartboard with a pencil.

    • 4

Mount the dartboard to the wall, making sure the top and bottom match the marks on the wall. If your board has a loop at the top for mounting, have your friend hold the aligned board tightly against the wall while you use a hammer to drive a nail into the wall at the top of the loop. Make sure the loop is pulled upward tautly and that the nail is straight while you pound it into the wall.

    • 5

Confirm the correct distance from the dartboard to the throw line by measuring from the bulls-eye downward at an angle to the forward edge of the throw line. This should measure exactly 9 feet 7 3/8 inches.

    Soft -Tipped Darts

    • 6

Mark the board's depth measurement on the floor and measure outward from the wall 8 feet to mark the forward edge of your throw line.

    • 7

Have a friend hold the board against the wall as you measure up from the depth measurement mark to a height of 5 feet 8 inches Center the bulls-eye with this measurement and make marks on the wall above and below the board with a pencil.

    • 8

Mount the board using a hammer and nail through the loop, keeping the board within the markings on the wall.

    • 9

Confirm proper placement by measuring from the bulls-eye downward to the forward edge of the throw line. This should measure exactly 9 feet 9 1/2 inches.
