Egg Drop Contest Rules

When students are learning about basic physics, they are often given the task of dropping an egg and creating a device to prevent the egg from breaking. Familiarize yourself with the contest rules before you begin creating the device to drop your egg.
  1. Raw Eggs

    • Use raw eggs. Otherwise, the eggs will not break if they hit the ground. Cooked eggs will be disqualified.

    Weigh Eggs

    • Each egg is weighed before and after the contest to make sure the same egg is used in the egg drop. If the egg has a different ending weight, it will be disqualified.

    Inspect Eggs

    • Once the eggs have been dropped, they are inspected by a judge for any cracking, oozing or splitting of the shell.

    Rules

    • When the eggs are dropped, they must not come into contact with anything until they hit the ground. If any other object touches the egg device, it will be disqualified.

    Scoring

    • Upper level competitors will have the parts of their egg device counted to determine the winner. The contestant using the fewest number of parts in his device will score higher than a contestant using many different parts.
