Differently Shaped Pool Tables

The American eight-ball game of pool was first played in the early 1900s and has been played in neighborhood bars and family rooms ever since. The traditional pool table is rectangular in shape and can range in length from 7 to 9 feet. While most people shoot a game on classic rectangular tables, a wide range of differently shaped pool tables are available on the market, including round, zig-zag and even hexagon rotating versions.

The Round Table
- The first rounded pool table was designed in the 1960s, according to JM Billiard. The original table was 8 feet in diameter, but tables can be custom made in 6, 7 or 8 feet. Those wishing to purchase round pool tables can get them tailored to suit their home decor, with wood finishes, laminates and fiber-optic lighting on offer. Players can shoot a game of pool similar to one on a traditional pool table, although, according to JM Billiard, the 7-inch straight bank in the railing makes bank shots easier than on traditional tables.
The Hexagon Rotating Table
- If you want a pool table in your home or bar yet don't have quite enough room for the rectangular version, the hexagon-shaped table fits in tight corners. The table also rotates on a set of bearings, which means that players can easily access all sides to shoot easily. It has a metal frame and features the traditional pool table cloth and pockets.
The Zig-Zag
- Pool tables also come in zig-zag shapes. If you want to play on a surface that really is out of the ordinary, consider this one that is custom made by Prime Leisure. The table is in the shape of a "Z" and comes with 10 web pockets and L-shaped cushioning. Made from a mixture of metal, aluminum, styrene plastic and zinc alloy, these custom-made zig-zag tables can be designed in a number of colors.
