Holiday Song Scramble
You can hardly celebrate winter without singing holiday tunes. First, come up with some famous holiday songs the players probably know. Select about three songs for every group composed of three or four people. Pick out a lyric from each song that isn't easily recognizable. For example, instead of using the lyric "Frosty the Snowman was a jolly, happy soul," use: "So he said let's run, and we'll have some fun." Write each word from each set of lyrics on separate slips of paper. Divide the players into groups, about four players in every team. Hand each group three lyric sets. When you say "Go," players work together to unscramble the lyrics to each song and come up with the correct title. Once a group has come up with the three correct titles, they win the game.
Wax Skating
If you haven't had much snow in your area, and can't go ice skating at the pond, try this activity instead. Gather all of the participants inside on a smooth hardwood or laminate surface. Give each person two sheets of wax paper; they place these sheets on the floor and put one foot on top of each sheet. Tell the participants that these sheets act as skates. Play some holiday music while the participants twirl on the floor. If you like, the participants can have a wax skating race.
Human Snowmen
For a relay game for those who don't have much snow outside, start by pairing off your participants. One partner from each pair becomes the model, and the other becomes the artist. Hand the artist a roll of toilet paper, some colorful construction paper, tape and scissors. When you say "Go," the artists all wrap their models in the toilet paper from head to toe. After they do this, they start to decorate their newly made "snowmen" by cutting out shapes from the construction paper and taping them onto their snowmen. Once everyone has had about 10 minutes or so, have everyone vote on the best snowman. Then, let the artists become the models so everyone can have a chance playing snowmen. Vote on the overall best snowman when players have finished the second round.
