Discus Throw
To create a discus throw activity, you will need several paper plates. Give each player a paper plate and let him decorate his paper plate with his name using markers. Mark a starting line and have players line up at the starting line. One at a time a player will throw their paper plate to see how far they can throw it. Each player gets three tries and the player who throws it the farthest wins the gold medal.
Relay Race
Create a relay race using empty paper towel holders. Divide players into teams of four players and have the players stand about 50 feet apart. Give the first player in each line an empty paper towel roll. When you say, "Go," the first player in each team will run to the second player in their team and hand them the paper towel roll. That person will continue the race until the last person has the paper towel roll. That player must run an additional 50 feet across the finish line and be the first one across to win the gold medal.
Three-Legged Races
Players of all ages can enjoy three-legged races. Have all players select a partner. Mark a starting line and finish line about 50 feet apart. All partners will line up at the starting line. Take a piece of yarn or torn-up sheet and tie the left leg of one player to the right leg of the other player together. When you say, "Go," the partners must work together to run to the finish line. The first set of partners across the finish line win gold medals.
Shot Put
For shot put, you will need old tube socks and rubber balls that will fit in the socks. Place one medium-sized, rubber ball in each old sock and tie the end of the sock. Mark a standing line and have the players line up behind the line. One at a time, each player will grab the end of the tube sock that does not have the ball in it and throw the sock as far as possible. Mark each player's throw and the player with the longest distance wins the game.
