How to Plan a Western Style Scavenger Hunt

A scavenger hunt is an effective and practical way to keep children entertained during a Western-themed party. This also offers a way for the party attendees to work to win their party goody bags. Use a Western theme for the clues, prizes and the places where the clues are hidden. A Western-style scavenger hunt will help the children at the party connect with the party theme and become invested in the Wild West-style atmosphere.

Instructions

    • 1

Set an allotted play area for the scavenger hunt to take place. For smaller children, this may be restricted to a home or yard, but the game area for older teenagers could extend to local parks or even around town.

    • 2

Decorate the area (if limiting area to home and yard) to match the Western theme. Scatter sand to create a desert feel and place cactus plants around the area.

    • 3

Create cardboard cutouts of saloon-style doors to position in doorways. The doors are opened through the middle, with the flaps opening to the sides to let the individual enter.

    • 4

Incorporate other Western paraphernalia, such as cowboy hats on coat racks, chaps hanging in closets and horse stuffed animals placed around the house.

    • 5

Create clues relating to the Western-style elements or using Western terminology. For example, to lead the players to the bathroom, write a clue that says, "This is where a cowboy would go after too many glasses of whiskey." You could also right more obvious clues, such as, "Check inside this hat worn by cowboys."

    • 6

Create the clues so they lead players to the end of the game where a prize is hidden.
