How to Plane a Shuffleboard

Shuffleboard is a game that is becoming increasingly popular. In shuffleboard, you slide disks across a wooden surface trying to land on specified spaces to earn points. You can also slide your disks into those of your opponent to keep them from gaining points. A shuffleboard table is usually made of maple with a slick surface created with wax and polyurethane. It is vital that the shuffleboard playing surface be as level and smooth as possible, which is why the wood must be planed.

Instructions

    • 1

Check to see how level the playing surface is. Place the level at each end and in the middle of the table. Place the level both lengthwise and horizontally to ensure that you are getting an accurate measure.

    • 2

Record your findings. For example, if the middle of the table sits higher than either end, write that down.

    • 3

Prepare your electric sander by installing a very fine grit sandpaper, such as 220 or 240. This grit will allow you to level the wood without taking off more than necessary.

    • 4

Sand beginning where your level measures too high. Stop occasionally to check your measurements and to ensure you are sanding all areas evenly, keeping the table level.
