How to Repair a Wii Controller

Many people who think their Nintendo Wii remote is broken go through a lot of trouble to try and fix it. The Wii remote is made to be very durable, since they are actually supposed to flail around in your hands, rather than sit in one spot. Rather than assuming your remote is broken and needs to be returned, take a few steps to check it out yourself and see if there is anything simple you can do in order to get it working again.

Instructions

    • 1

Put a new set of batteries into your Wii remote. It may sound silly or obvious, but many times people think their remote is broken when it simply needs a change of batteries.

    • 2

Make sure the remote stand is plugged in properly. This is the stand that holds the remotes when they are charging and not in use. If it is not plugged in, the remotes will not work.

    • 3

Make sure there is nothing blocking the way between the Wii remote and the sensor on the game box. In order to work, the Wii remote must have a clear signal from the remote to the sensor. Make sure there are no tables, chairs, boxes or toys in the way of the signal.

Call customer support or bring your Wii remote into the place where it was purchased to find out what else could be wrong with it. In most cases, one of the above steps fixes the problem, but sometimes, there is actually something faulty with the remote. Contact the customer support team to find help troubleshooting the problem, or to have a new remote shipped to you if it is unable to be fixed.
