How to Build Your Own Boat Game

Boat games can be designed in a way to be fun and entertaining as well as educational. Understanding the dynamics and physics it takes to keep the boat afloat will help serve as an introductory lesson for the players. In addition, constructing the boat will be an educational experience as well in basic engineering and designing. Introduce the game concept to instill a sense of competition and likewise engage the players in the game.

Things You'll Need

Lid
Clay
Straw
Hole punch
Construction paper
Basin
Water

Instructions

  Place a large basin filled with water at the front of the room.

  Provide each player with a plastic lid, such as the top of a margarine container, a lump of clay, a straw, hole punch and a piece of construction paper.

  Demonstrate for the players how to build a boat from the items provided. Cut the construction paper into a triangle and punch three holes in the flat side of the triangle. Work the clay into a ball and press it into the inside of the lid. Weave the straw through the holes in the construction paper and place the opposite end into the clay and place the boat in the water.

  Count down to signal when the players can start the game.

  Declare the player whose completed boat floats for 10 seconds the winner of the game.
