Combat Action War Games

War games come in many forms, but games oriented toward combat put players in the heart of the action. Such games can be found online, often for free, via game-hosting websites. These games typically play in a user's Web browser but may require that software such as Flash or Java be installed before play. War game enthusiasts also play real-life combat games, in safe environments, at special events held in forests and in other suitable environments.
  1. Desert Battle

    • This 2D browser game is set in the Middle East and puts you in control of a military helicopter on a mission to defeat the enemy. You pilot the helicopter by using the directional buttons on your keyboard, while you can fire bombs and missiles using the Z and X buttons respectively. Enemy soldiers will emerge to try to shoot you as you fly across the level. You'll need to take out these enemies using your firepower while trying to avoid incoming attacks. At the same time, you must keep control of your helicopter, since if you hit the ground, you'll blow up. You have three lives --- crash or get hit three times, and it's game over.

    Autumn War

    • This Web browser game is free and combines action-packed cartoon combat with military strategy. The game is set in a world full of infected zombie creatures; you take command of a regiment of human soldiers out to take down these undead monsters.

The game has two play modes. The first is a strategy overview, in which both friendly and enemy units are marked by circles. The units you control are red circles; click with the mouse on these units to control them. The enemy units are green in color; you click on these to engage them in combat.

Once combat has been initiated, the game switches to a side-long camera view, with each side advancing toward the other in a grassy field. Here, you can order your troops to retreat, fire or charge the enemy by using the buttons along the bottom of the screen. You also can view parts of the battlefield by scrolling from left to right with the mouse. Once all enemy units on the strategy screen have been engaged and defeated, you'll have completed the mission.

    Airsoft Gaming

    • Airsoft gaming allows combat fans to get away from computer simulations and into real-world environments. Airsoft players use special guns, which fire safe pellets, as part of battle and military scenarios. If you get shot during the game, you'll typically be out of the game for a few minutes, then you can rejoin the action. Players complete missions, such as "capture the flag," as part of airsoft gaming events or weekends.

Airsoft games are run throughout a number of countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Experienced players bring their own guns to events, while newer players can rent guns from event organizers.
