Creating a Snowman
To begin this snow game, you first need to sculpt a snowman, as suggested by the website, Family Fun. Then, gather up the various items used to complete a snowman, such as a hat and a carrot. Line players up one foot away from the snowman. Hand the first player in line the hat. He has to try and throw the hat so it lands on the snowman's head. Allow all the players to have their turn throwing the hat. All the players who successfully land the hat on the snowman's head get to participate in a second round where they stand two feet away from the snowman and toss the hat again. This pattern continues until only one player can successfully land the hat on the snowman from the chosen spot. Try throwing other objects, attempting to land them on the snowman, to make the game more difficult.
Winter Relay
Prepare your players for the time it takes to get dressed on winter mornings by playing this relay game. First, find some winter clothing you can use for the game. Clothing should include coats, scarves, mittens, hats and any other winter items you wear to protect from the cold. You need two of every clothing type to play the game. When ready, divide the players into two teams and line them up at one side of the yard. Place a pile of winter clothing in front of both teams. On the other side of the yard, make each team a pile of snow. When you say "Go," the first players in line quickly put on the clothing and race to the other side of the yard. While there, they race to pack together a snowball. The first player who can successfully hit his opponent with a snowball gets a point for his team. Both players then return to their lines and hand the clothes off to the next players in line. The team with the most points (once everyone has had a turn) wins the game.
Snowy Ambush
If you have a large yard with trees or a nearby park, try playing this game. Begin by dividing the players into two teams. Select a base point (such as a lawn chair or a specific tree) that the players can run to in order to avoid their opponents. Choose one team (Team A) to leave and go find a hiding spot. Meanwhile, have Team B count to 100. Once Team A finds a hiding spot, they quickly make snowballs and set up an "ambush." Once Team B has reached 100, they head out in search of Team A. Once Team A spots Team B, Team A quickly tries to pelt Team B with snowballs. If a member of Team B gets hit by an opponent, he has to join Team A. To avoid this, Team B must race to the base point. Once everyone has returned to the base point, let Team B have their chance to set up an ambush and continue until all the players have joined one team.
