How to Make Your Own Ride Games

Carnivals and fairs offer various avenues for fun and enjoyment through the rides and games. Re-create these themes in your own backyard by transforming your play-scapes and swing sets into at-home ride games. This could help to keep children entertained and out of the house during birthday parties and sleepovers. Incorporate prizes as a way for the children to earn their goody bags, as well as keep with the carnival and amusement park atmosphere.

Instructions

  1. Train Ride

    • 1

Hang a hula hoop from a tree and set up an area to catch a "train ride" using a pull-wagon.

    • 2

Seat one child at a time in the wagon and provide them with at least five water balloons.

    • 3

Pull them in zig-zag patterns around the yard near the hanging hula hoop. During the ride they must toss the balloons through the hula hoop. If they get at least three in, they win a prize.

    • 4

Return them to the starting point to pick up the next player.

    Swing Catch

    • 5

Seat one player at a time in a swing and push them until they reach full swinging momentum.

    • 6

As they swing, roll a large ball, such as a basketball, underneath the swing. As they swing, they must try to grab it with their feet.

    • 7

Continue to roll balls of decreasing size, such as a softball and golf ball. Assign points to each ball, with the points getting higher for the smaller the ball. The player with the most points wins a prize.

    Water Slide

    • 8

Group the children into a line behind the slide.

    • 9

Send the children down the slide one at a time. The first round, each child must hold a large bowl filled with water while going down the slide. If they do not spill any, they progress to the next round.

    • 10

Send the second-round players down the slide holding a cup of water. If they don't spill any again, they move onto the next round.

    • 11

Provide each remaining player with a spoon filled with water as they go down the slide. Any who still don't spill the water receive a prize.
